30th Anniversary Volunteer Team

FAQs
Will I be met at the airport?
Yes. If you have let us know your flight details, someone will be there to meet you in Phnom Penh and get you to the hotel.
Do I need a visa?
Yes. Cambodia requires a tourist visa and we recommend purchasing it online before you travel at evisa.gov.kh. It is straightforward and worth doing ahead of time.
Do I need a Working With Children Check?
Yes, without exception. This must be in place before you join any team. No clearance, no trip.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. It must cover volunteer work and manual labour. Donāt leave home without it.
What will I be doing on the ground?
Every team is different, and that is intentional. We look at the skills each person brings and plan the project around them. Whether you are a builder, a teacher, a nurse or someone who has never swung a hammer in their life, there will always be something meaningful for you to do. Turn up with a positive attitude and we will take care of the rest.
What should I pack?
Think practical, not pretty. You will be working hard in hot weather. A full packing list will be sent to you once you are registered.
Will there be wifi?
At the hotels, yes. At Light of Hope, donāt count on it. Some of the best moments of the trip happen when you put the phone down anyway.
What is the food like?
We eat well. When we are out in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, we visit tried and tested restaurants that we know and trust, many of them social enterprises, so your meal goes somewhere meaningful beyond just the plate. At Light of Hope, the house mums cook for the team and honestly, for most people this ends up being the food they talk about most when they get home. Simple, fresh and made with a lot of love.
Where will I be sleeping?
Every place we stay is safe and comfortable. In Phnom Penh and Siem Reap you will be in good hotels with pools, a nice way to wind down after a full day. Near Light of Hope things are a little more simple, but you will have a good bed, hot water and air conditioning. It is comfortable and it does the job. Most people find they sleep pretty well after a day on the ground.
Do I need to speak Khmer?
Not at all. Smiles travel just fine.
