Purpose

A group of Year 10 students from Landsdale Christian School engaged in a service-learning trip in Cambodia.

An eager group of students and their teachers had a great time in Cambodia, quickly connecting with children, staff, and the wider community. They began in Phnom Penh learning about Cambodia’s history and the context that shapes life today. Days were full of activity - cooking spaghetti bolognese, playing soccer, and getting stuck into simple craft projects with scissors and paper. They also helped with painting around the centre and joined in the Amazing Tuk Tuk Race, exploring local village life along the way. Evenings were spent around the bonfire, launching sky lanterns and enjoying time together as a group. The trip finished with a rainy visit to Angkor Wat.

"Visiting LOH in Cambodia was a once-in-a-lifetime experience (though hopefully not the only time I go in my life!). As a teacher, I was excited to see how our Year 10 students would grow during the trip, but I didn’t expect such an incredible impact from the students interacting with the LOH kids would have on me. The joy and resilience of the LOH kids, despite challenging circumstances, was truly inspiring. I also felt a deep connection with the LOH staff, who make everyone they meet feel like part of their family. The way the community lived and loved so fully felt like exactly how God designed us to live. This experience has left a lasting impression on me and reminded me of the power of community, hope, and genuine care. I feel so blessed to have been able to be a part of this experience."
